SCRL fund community recycling projects
Grants have been approved for a number of local community based projects which will help boost recycling in Shropshire.
A wide range of projects were successful in their application for funding; ranging from a school who is going to build a greenhouse from plastic bottles to a local charity planning a fashion show for newly designed clothes made from scrap textiles.
Other successful bids included a detailed brochure listing companies in Shropshire offering green services; a one stop service for donating unwanted furniture for re-use, repair and recycling; facilities to support primary school children to recycle food waste and to learn about Darwin’s work with worms.
Other successful applicants include a community interest company to develop their bicycle repair and recycling service; a local allotment who are setting up a community composting site; and Young Carers who are using scrap metal to create musical instruments.
Rosemary Collie, SCRL co-ordinator commented “we were delighted with the positive response from community groups who have lots of great ideas on how to reuse and recycle different materials.”
Cllr David Roberts, Portfolio Holder for local environment and economy at Shropshire Council commented “We are blessed in Shropshire with some fantastic charities and social enterprises who get involved in recycling. Shropshire Council has an excellent track record of working with the voluntary and community sector, in some areas to directly deliver waste services to the public and through Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd. we aim to develop their capacity to deliver more in the future.”
A small amount of funding remains available this year. If you have a project idea please contact Rosemary Collie, SCRL Co-ordinator on 01584 877751.
SCRL is a membership organisation which enables voluntary and community sector organisations engaged with recycling and reuse across Shropshire to network together and learn from each other. We distribute a wide range of information to our members and are able to provide advice and support from within the membership. If you would like to join the network please contact Rosemary Collie.
